How Do You Know That The Bible Wasn’t Merely Stories?
-Just early literature that some people took too far. Sure, some structures exist today that were mentioned in the Bible, but that proves nothing. Fiction novels today mention real structures and cities.

Hello,
Because of the justice I see in the laws handed down to Moses, and all of them, not just the ten commandments. While I understand that Hammurabi’s stele contains “eye for an eye” and similar Judaic law, this does not lessen the justice I have found in the old and new testament.
Just as there is a spirit of almost any book, there is a spirit in the Bible that is far more compelling than just words on paper.
Thank you for your question.
Many religions simply exclude the element of prophecy, knowing it would only discredit them. However the Bible not only doesn’t avoid prophecy, but it also repeats the matter over and over again with absolute accuracy.
One mark of divine revelation is fulfilled prophecy. In the Scriptures God has prewritten the events of history with absolute precision. Such accuracy demands a divine authorship because only God could have foreseen and recorded events before they occurred. So this is essentially an argument based on the omniscience of God. The Bible is the product of One who knows everything. Try as they may, men cannot predict the future; only God can. The Bible alone gives us history in detail–before it happens.
Since the fulfillment of prophecy is always in the future from the standpoint of the prophet, many of the prophets did not fully understand their own predictions. That is because many of the prophecies seemed unlikely at the time to occur, such as the destruction of mighty Babylon. As in the majority of cases, that prophecy went beyond human comprehension because it was so foreign to current circumstances.
You never met a Hittite, an Amorite, a Hivite, a Jebusite, or any other “ite”, right? They were all around at the times the bible was written, but no…they have long since morphed into the melee and the mix of the races. But we do still have pure Israelites! That in itself is an indication of God’s preservation for their future. Seventy percent, by the way, of Scripture is the story of Israel, start to finish.
Just the fact that they’re still a people, recently back in thier land (as B says), and duly constituted as a nation (as B says) proves the bible has to be of a supernatural being – or of a time traveler. Surely men could not guess SO PRECICELY all the future details that have actually hapend as the bible has predicted
we dont thats why its called FAITH.. thats why the bible is so controversial we can prove or disprove that ne of the stories happened.. i have learned alot about the origins of christianity in my himanities and even as a christian some of the stuff is kinda iffy.. but how knows thats the fun part i guess.. its funny how we can put our lives in the hands of people who claimed they got visions and dreams from God but have no real proof thats all the more reason for me to believe it.. but then again how do you explain all of the things that the bible has predicted that has came true idk coincidence? i just like to believe that im not here just to go to school work my whole life and follow a bunch of laws made up by other hunam beigns whats the point of having order.. idk how athiests function i wouldnt care about anything or have any type of motivation to do good by others why try if you are just going to die and thats it? pretty pointless if you ask me..
For starters–I know history professors who use the bible for it’s historical accuracy. Basically, there was a man named Jesus, there is no argument about that. We have the writings in the bible, as well as letters from Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea stating that there was a man named Jesus who he executed by crucifying him. All three religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam acknowledge that Jesus existed and was a great man, although the other two are wrong in that Jesus was the savior and messiah. The bible was written by many different people, all of who say the same thing. And keep in mind that at least two of these books about Jesus were written by people who were there with him and saw all of these things first hand.
Basically, if you don’t want to belive that, if you look for God to act in your life, you will find Him. If you read the bible as well, and understand what it is saying, You’ll understand the truth behind it. I would recommend starting with the gospels, first the gospel of John. If you’re in doubt definately read it.
I believed in Jesus and loved God, but didnt believe the Bible was God’s word for a long time. I accepted a lot of what i thought was logical common sense and what you hear from others, at that time that it was from man. That is until i read it for myself. There is a power that cant be explained when you leave yourself open to God and read His Word. Its unexplainable. And the more you do it, the stronger the feeling is. Its peaceful, joyful and so many other things. i hope you try to experience it for your self and see.
There are findings like archeological sites and artifacts, Roman documents, and the dead sea scrolls (which has proven the accuracy of the Bible being written exactly as it was written then) ….the info is out there, you have to find it.
Hey…smart guy.
MAN (not women because men were still oppressing the **** out of them)
WROTE THE BIBLE.
The bible is therefore – fallible. Man wrote it. Can’t be perfect. Can’t be objective. Has to be subjective and biased, due to the fact that the bible was written with intention.
You, nor I, nor the man with the big white hat (the pope) knows what the bible was originally intended for.
Looking at history and what was done with the bible ( I.E the church) you can guess that the text (a grouping of stories intended to teach morality lessons ) was then used as a book of laws ordained by god.
Read your history, son.
I’m out.
Deuces.
The fact that many of the authors actually suffered tortuous death rather than recant the beliefs about which they wrote is a pretty good indication that they were not writing fiction.
I just can’t imagine J K Rowling or Dan Brown choosing to suffer torture and death rather than admit that they wrote fiction.

Well, there is the Titus Arch in Rome that depicts the conquering of Jerusalem which is recorded in the Bible, then there’s all of these.http://www.facingthechallenge.org/arch2.…

a lot gets lost in the translation. its all metaphors and symbols. you cant just read it like a book. all religions are telling you the truth. you cant understand the messages until you experience them yourself. even most priests do not understand what they are really teaching.
Well, I guess you just have to have faith that it’s a historical document. Are the medival times fictional? The French revolution?
To assert the Bible is a divine document is okay. Trying to prove it’s real by quoting the very book in question is not.
First, I believe the Bible is the Word of God because of its scientific accuracy. The Truth of the Word of God tells us that God “hangeth the earth upon nothing” (Job 26:7). How did Job know that the earth hung in space before the age of modern astronomy and space travel? The Holy Spirit told him. The scientists of Isaiah’s day didn’t know the topography of the earth, but Isaiah said, “It is [God] that sitteth upon the circle of the earth” (Isaiah 40:22). The word for “circle” here means a globe or sphere. How did Isaiah know that God say upon the circle of the earth? By divine inspiration.
Secondly, the Bible is affirmed through historical accuracy. Do you remember the story about the handwriting on the wall that is found in the fifth chapter of Daniel? Belshazzar hosted a feast with a thousand of his lords and ladies. Suddenly, a gruesome hand appeared out of nowhere and began to write on a wall. The king was disturbed and asked for someone to interpret the writing. Daniel was found and gave the interpretation. After the interpretation, “Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.” (Daniel 5:29). Basing their opinion on Babylonian records, the historians claim this never happened. According to the records, the last king of Babylon was not Belshazzar, but a man named Nabonidas. And so, they said, the Bible is in error. There wasn’t a record of a king named Belshazzar. Well, the spades of archeologists continued to do their work. In 1853, an inscription was found on a cornerstone of a temple built by Nabonidas, to the god Ur, which read: “May I, Nabonidas, king of Babylon, not sin against thee. And may reverence for thee dwell in the heart of Belshazzar, my first-born favorite son.” From other inscriptions, it was learned that Belshazzar and Nabonidas were co-regents. Nabonidas traveled while Belshazzar stayed home to run the kingdom. Now that we know that Belshazzar and Nabonidas were co-regents, it makes sense that Belshazzar would say that Daniel would be the third ruler. What a marvelous nugget of truth tucked away in the Word of God!
Third, from Genesis to Revelation, the Bible reads as one book. And there is incredible unity to the Bible. The Bible is one book, and yet it is made up of 66 books, was written by at least 40 different authors over a period of about 1600 years, in 13 different countries and on three different continents. It was written in at least three different languages by people in all professions. The Bible forms one beautiful temple of truth that does not contradict itself theologically, morally, ethically, doctrinally, scientifically, historically, or in any other way.
Fourth, did you know the Bible is the only book in the world that has accurate prophecy? When you read the prophecies of the Bible, you simply have to stand back in awe. There are over 300 precise prophecies that deal with the Lord Jesus Christ in the Old Testament that are fulfilled in the New Testament. To say that these are fulfilled by chance is an astronomical impossibility.
Finally, the Bible is not a book of the month, but the Book of the ages. First Peter 1:25 says: “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the Word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” No book has ever had as much opposition as the Bible. Men have laughed at it, scorned it, burned it, ridiculed it, and made laws against it. But the Word of God has survived. And it is applicable today as much as it was yesterday and will be tomorrow.
It’s so majestically deep that scholars could swim and never touch the bottom. Yet so wonderfully shallow that a little child could come and get a drink of water without fear of drowning. That is God’s precious, holy Word. The Word of God. Know it. Believe it. It is True.
How do you know Alexander the Great wasn’t a fictional character?
The Bible is a collection of stories. True stories!
nobody freakin knows.
