What Do You Think Of Dystopian Novels?

I’m in 4th year high school in Canada and I’m sick and tired of the dystopian novels that we have to study. Year after year, dystopian after dystopian. What is with these dystopian novels?
I’m reading Fahrenheit 451 and as part of my project, I also have to read Brave New World. Last year I read Handmaid’s tale and 2 years ago I read The Chyrsalids and Animal Farm.
Why do authors write such depressing novels when there is so much greatness in the world?

Do You Think Being A “tortured” Mind Makes You More Creative And Better With Poems, Stories, Songs, Etc?

I mean, if you take a look at Edgar Allen Poe, he went through a lot throughout his whole life, and look at the success he makes from his stories and poems. Is it what we relate to best, the troubles of our lives? Michael Jackson had a hard childhood, and he became the king of pop. Pablo Picasso was a “tortured” mind, and he made beautiful, yet eerie art work. And the same for Albert Einstein. What do you think?

Do You Think The United States Has A Resistance Literature?

Resistance literature is prominent where there is political opposition, and it works to restructure things historically, socially, and politically as well as inform and encourage further resistance. Many places have long histories of resistance literature (Palestine, Egypt, El Salvador, South America), but does the U.S.?

Do You Think That Literature For Young Teens Are Nonexistent Today?

There are many shelves lined with novels about sex, rich girls, private boarding schools, typical romance, fantasy, and competition in the young adult section in the bookstores. An example would be “Gossip Girls” or the “It Girls” series. Do teens today like to read those novels? If so, why do you find them appealing? Does anyone write anything worth reading anymore? In my opinion, I would love to read something written by classic authors in the late 19th or early 20th century era in the young adult section.
