What Is The Average Service Life Of Your M16 Magazines?
As in how many rounds can be put through them before they get thrown out. And what usually goes first, the body or the springs? Were excluding ones that get suddenly destroyed like and example would be run over by vehicles. And are they still the aluminum ones with that easy to scratch dry-film stuff?

The magazines will last a long time if you take care of them, and that just means cleaning them when they need it. If the magazine malfunctions, it it’s usually because it’s dirty or the feed lips are bent, or because the follower is toast. You can tune them up with replacement guts, and that usually sets them straight. Be sure that if you have black followers in your magazines, you swap them out for the green teflon followers. They will make your magazines more reliable. Magpul Industries makes a no tilt follower that is really good, but they are expensive. You can keep the springs from taking a dump by only loading 28 rounds in a 30 round mag. It makes a difference.
The springs go first but I have mags around that are well over 10 years old! Like anything it depends on how well they are taken care of and how much they are used. As to an actual service life hell if I know I assume there is a TM or operational guide with a suggested service life of them!?
If I remember correctly..
I think they hold 16 rounds. The springs definately go first, depending where you are.. In Iraq, sand gets in, and f’s things all up…
If you break them down and do regular maintenance they will last a good while.
